Costume parties for your children can be a ton of fun, not only for them but for you as well. It is always acceptable and preferred that you dress up too as long as your costume is in good taste. Depending on the age of your child, they will either be incredibly pleased that you are dressed up and are at the party or embarrassed to have their parental unit around but hoping that your costume is "cool" enough to not make them look bad. Below are five costume ideas for your child's next costume party.
1. Theme Costume - If your child's party has a them then by all means, play along. This also lets you blend into the party a bit better so for children that may not be happy about their mom being there, you aren't so obvious.
2. Cowgirl - This is a nice easy costume a mom can pull together for a last minute party. Throw on your cowboy hat and a pair of jeans. This is also practical for moving around a lot if you are going to have to be chasing after running children.
3. Witch - The most traditional and well known costume through the years as a mom is a witch. Be sure not to be too scary if toddlers are involved but have fun with the costume. A little green face paint and a wart on the end of your nose goes a long way!
4. Queen - Every prince or princess will love having their mother dressed up as the queen. Even if your child is not dressed as a prince or a prince, you can still be the queen. Shouldn't need too much convincing!
5. Fairy Godmother - This is a perfect costume especially for very young children. Your child, when they're young looks up to you almost as a perfect angel that fixes all wounds and you're almost magical. A fairy godmother costumer is perfect. You know you have an old tiara and a feather boa hanging in your closet that would be just perfect. You may even have a glittery purse stashed away that no one knows about.
Pick your costume based on the age of your child, theme, location and what would be considered appropriate. If the party will be outside or somewhere cool then perhaps you can be a skier? If it is a mother/daughter costume party then of course the two of you can coordinate a perfect costume together or go as something matching. Remember to be practical. You want to be able to still tend to children running around. Don't wear anything that you're going to be upset if things get spilled on and avoid masks or heavy props like large wings, etc. Every mom loves the chance to dress up for parties so have fun with your costume and be sure to take pictures together. You child will only be this age once so capture the memories!
